A classic growing up. This recipe came from a mail-in offer from a magazine that has lasted years in our family. The sauce itself is reminiscent of a béchamel sauce. Combined with the sharpness of the cheddar, this meal is great for a cold night or kid-friendly event.

- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Cook elbow macaroni as the box directs and drain.
- Melt butter in saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Once melted, remove from heat. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Gradually stir in milk. Bring to boil, stirring (as soon as it bubbles turn down heat).
- Simmer mixture for 1 minute. stirring constantly. Then, remove from heat.
- Stir in 1 ½ cups cheddar cheese and all elbow macaroni. Pour into baking dish and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
- Bake 15 - 20 minutes or until cheese is golden brown.
